CoMICsLite & Glucocorticoid-induced Adrenal Insufficiency CoMICsLite: Making Health Information Simple and Accessible for All ADSHG were delighted to work once again with the brilliant CoMICs team on their latest video explaining glucocorticoid-induced adrenal insufficiency, also known as tertiary adrenal insufficiency, for people living with the condition and those who support them. CoMICsLite's video aims to break down new joint clinical guidance from the European Society of Endocrinology and Endocrine Society: “Diagnosis and Therapy of Glucocorticoid-induced Adrenal Insufficiency.” This is the first guideline developed and published jointly by the two Societies. It is also the first guideline focusing on this topic since glucocorticoids were first used in clinical practice in the 1940s, and it aims to standardise the approach to this challenging condition. Below the CoMICs team explain more about CoMICsLite, and their collaborative work. What is CoMICsLite? CoMICsLite is on a mission to simplify complex medical information and make it accessible to everyone. Through short, engaging videos, we explain health topics in ways that are easy to understand. But we don’t stop there—our videos are translated into as many languages as possible, including Serbian, Brazilian Portuguese, Greek, Bengali, and Tamil, to ensure that even people who don’t speak English can benefit. By offering information in multiple languages, CoMICsLite aims to break down barriers to understanding healthcare. When people can access information in their preferred language, they feel more confident discussing their health with doctors and making shared decisions about their care. Helping Explain Glucocorticoid-Induced Adrenal Insufficiency One example of CoMICsLite’s work is our video on glucocorticoid-induced adrenal insufficiency. This condition can happen when people take glucocorticoid medicines for a long time. The video explains its symptoms, how it’s diagnosed, and available treatments in simple terms, helping viewers recognize when to seek help. The video is based on guidelines from the European Society of Endocrinology and the Endocrine Society of America. These guidelines ensure doctors can effectively manage the condition. By simplifying this information, CoMICsLite empowers people to understand their health better and engage in meaningful discussions with their healthcare providers. Full the full guidance How Does CoMICsLite Create Its Videos? Every CoMICsLite video is the result of a careful process: Simplifying Medical Content: We start by reviewing medical guidelines and selecting the most important points for patients. Complex medical terms are simplified into clear, relatable language. Engaging Presentation: The information is presented through visuals and storylines designed to grab and hold attention. Ensuring Accuracy: Doctors and medical professionals review the content to ensure it’s scientifically correct, while patients provide feedback to ensure it’s practical and easy to understand. Translation and Cultural Relevance: Once completed, the videos are translated into multiple languages and checked by language experts to ensure accuracy and cultural sensitivity. Collaboration with Patient Groups Working with groups like the Addison’s Disease Self-Help Group helps CoMICsLite make videos that truly address patient needs. Feedback from these groups ensures the content is not only accurate but also relatable and practical for everyday life. Collaborating with diverse communities also ensures the videos are inclusive, culturally sensitive, and meaningful for people from all backgrounds. What’s Next for CoMICsLite? CoMICsLite is just getting started. We’re planning to cover more health topics and expand into even more languages. We’re also exploring ways to use our videos in regular doctor-patient consultations, making them a tool for shared decision-making. Our ultimate goal is to empower individuals with knowledge that transcends language and health literacy barriers, helping people make informed choices about their health alongside their doctors.
