"I can't tell you how worthwhile, well planned, informative and emotional I found the day. I learned so much and felt privileged, after many years of not knowing anyone else with Addison's, to not only meet with so many who share the same condition as myself but to also be able to ask experts in this field questions. Alongside of this, I felt humbled to meet some of the many people who give their precious time for the benefit of educating and advancing things for us members. I was first handed Deana's phone number around 31 years ago and I tentatively called up to ask her what the deal was about 'Atkinson's disease'. I was in such shock; I didn't even get the name of it correct. Her calm and reassuring voice was such a source of comfort to me having been told, at the age of 24, that I had a very serious condition I'd never heard of and was so unwell, that I'd already probably had it for around eight years by the time I was diagnosed." "It has since transpired that it is very likely that my grandmother died from this when my mum was just a very little girl and before anyone really knew about Addison's disease. Thanks to medical advances, I have worked as a Teacher and Lecturer, travelled all over the world, had two wonderful daughters and my husband and I currently Foster 4 more young people aged 3, 6, 8 and 15. I shall be forever grateful to Deana and all the other volunteers and would very much like to help in any capacity that I can in the future. On the day I was wearing a dress in the Addison's colours. I wish I could say I had meticulously planned this, but it was intact purely a wonderful coincidence, perhaps somewhere in my subconscious I picked it out." Lisa x Not yet a member?
